Wrapping It Up

It’s that time of year again! And by that we wish we meant jingle bell times, but for most of you it’s more likely to be the exam week blues. As we wrap up this school year (and maybe some presents too) the Beacon staff would like to encourage each and every one of you to give it your best in these last couple of weeks. In the meantime, here are some helpful tips that you’ve honestly probably heard before, but we hope you’ll take them anyway!

Take Study Breaks. You’ll retain more information if you stop occasionally to give your brain a rest. You can use this time constructively, by grabbing a snack or maybe picking up a little around the dorm. Whatever will help you to stay fresh and focused!

Get Plenty of Sleep. It’s a tired mantra, we know, but pulling all-nighters will not benefit you in the long run. You are usually better off relying on your recall from class than trying to cram information and then going into a test exhausted. The more tired you are, the more mistakes you will make, so get those forty winks!

Keep Warm. There is absolutely no shame in taking a blanket to class, or anywhere else you might find yourself studying. One, you will focus better if you are comfortable (as long as you don’t get too comfortable… when we said sleep we did not mean in class). Two, the last thing you need right now is to catch a cold. So bundle up!

Stay Nourished. Make sure to hydrate and eat regular meals! By meals we mean actually going to the cafeteria for once — hot Cheetos and Mountain Dew don’t count! Staying nourished and making relatively healthy choices will help keep your mind sharp and your body going strong.

Don’t Stress! Yes, it’s easy enough to say that, we know. Seriously though, worrying about your grades will not do much to improve them, and could hurt you in the long run.

We wish all the best in your endeavors, and Happy Holidays!
