Keep on Keeping On

Now that there have been a few weeks between spring break and now, students all over campus have gotten back into the swing of things. Even though we’ve had time to adjust, that’s certainly not been easy for some. Students who went home to their own beds and rooms have grown accustomed to the lazy mornings they so rarely get to enjoy. Those who have 8:00 AM classes now find it especially difficult to wake up and go to class. It’s gotten to the point that some students wonder if sticking with school these last few weeks is even worth it.

Well, it is.

It may not seem like it, but school is almost over! We only have a few more weeks to buckle down and do our work before it’s time for summer vacation. For those who can’t see an end, there is one. I know that it’s hard; trust me, it’s hard for me to get out of bed too. However, it IS possible to keep on keeping on.

Listen, things are going to get busy, and things are going to get rough. HOWEVER, we are tough college students and we can make it! James 1:2-3 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” Here, the Bible tells us that by pushing forward in our trials, we will become stronger in our faith. In Romans 2:7, it says, “To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality he will give eternal life.” Again, the Bible is telling us that seeking to do well will be greatly rewarded. God calls us to be diligent in all that we do, and that means that we bring glory to God when we do all things well.

So even though the last few weeks of the semester, and it would be oh, so tempting to let things slide until May graduation, we can’t do that. We CAN make it to the end! So maybe you come to class hyped up on an extra cup of coffee for the next few weeks. Maybe you wear the same shirt three days in a row because you keep sleeping in it. Do whatever it takes to push through, and we can finish strong. Even though this Bible verse is used on EVERYTHING that has to do with a race, it’s not bad advice. “… and let us run with perseverance the race marked out before us” (Heb. 12:1b).
