BMCU to change its schedule to a four day week starting Fall 2026
by Lauren Paul
The rumors are finally becoming reality at Blue Mountain: the four-day class schedule is starting next fall semester. In the fall, we will stop having classes on Fridays and we will have all of the classes from Monday to Thursday. This change will affect many different things including longer class times on Monday and Wednesday, different chapel times, and scheduling changes.
For one, classes on Monday and Wednesdays will now be an hour and fifteen minutes long, matching the Tuesday and Thursday classes. The Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes will be condensed to Monday/Wednesday.
Another change is chapel times. Chapel will now be held every day from nine thirty to ten. The class schedule will also be changing by extending the time between classes from ten minutes to fifteen minutes. All of this will result in most student’s days being a little longer, with some schedules going until two or three in the afternoon.
Many students see this change as being mostly beneficial in the long run. This will also majorly help education majors. Several education majors said that having Friday without classes is necessary to be able to get their field hours for their education classes, since the current schedule makes it incredibly hard to be able to get the hours. Some students saw the extra day as being very helpful for students to have time to work jobs and do homework.
There were some students that expressed concern about how this change would affect student engagement on the weekends. When asked about his thoughts on the four day week, Noah Harrington shared, “The bad thing is for games on Thursday and Friday nights. A lot of people aren’t going to be there, so campus life might decline more.”
Overall, most students like the idea of having more time on the weekends and are excited to make the change.
