Party at Pledge Night

For societies across Blue Mountain Christian University’s campus, pledge night is a fun start to each new school year. After new students have had the opportunity to settle in on campus, each society hosts a rush party for new students and existing members of each society to attend. These parties are a fun way for new students to decide what society they would like to be a part of. Female students have the option of joining three societies: the Eunomians, Modenians, or Euzelians. Male students have the choice of two societies: the Bereans or Macedonians. After rush week is over, all current and prospective members of the societies come together for pledge night.

At pledge night, each student who has not previously pledged to a society has the opportunity to choose what society to pledge. Students can take into consideration which society’s party they enjoyed most during rush week and what community feels most like home. All of these factors influence the decisions of new students. Olivia Joles pledged to a society for the first time this year. When asked why she chose her society, she stated, “I decided to pledge this year because I did not take the opportunity last year to pledge, which I regretted. I felt like I would have really enjoyed being in a society, so I decided to take the opportunity to pledge. When choosing my society, I was trying to see which one would fit my personality, and the Eunomians felt like home to me. They were so welcoming, and I felt like I instantly belonged there!” Greyson Blair had a similar experience to Olivia, sharing, “I chose to join the Berean society this year because I needed a godly community. The Bereans seemed to be a group of guys that had some of the same interests as I do.” While students traditionally join during their first semester on campus, there are no rules about when a student must join. Even after their first year at BMCU, students can still join a society!

Each society is different and has a lot to offer. Brianna Wilder, president of the Modenian society, shared, “Our Modenian Pledge this year was a blast! We welcomed ten new wonderful girls into the MO’s and got to celebrate with pizza and watching ‘The Princess Bride’! The MO’s are so excited for this year and all the fun parties and events to come, including fall and Christmas parties and our annual Alumni Tea Party. And of course, all of our MO Bigs can’t wait to love on their Littles until Reveal Night and long after!” Sarah Martindale, Eunomian president, described the Eunomian pledge night party, stating, “We were very excited to welcome 14 new members to the Eunomian society on Pledge Night. We celebrated our new members with cake and our traditional Eunomian punch during our Pledge Night celebration. We have a very fun semester ahead of us, and I’m looking forward to our get togethers this year!” Each society has many fun events planned for the year, and pledge night is a fun way to celebrate new members and give them a look into what the year holds.

Pledge night is a way to enjoy the company of new and old society members. Each society has a lot to offer new members. Pledge night is always a blast, and a great way to interact with fellow students with similar interests. If you want a great community of students and a way to make new friends, pledging to a society is a great way to meet new people!
