Talented Toppers
On November 11, 2024, the SBA of BMCU hosted the annual talent show, Toppers Got Talent. Attendees enjoyed singing acts, a dancing act, and an animated video act.
The theme this year was Clue, “like the board game,” according to SBA president Cosette Alsbrook. The judges were faculty members: Michael Megelsh, Hayley Carpenter, Nathan Bennett, Dean Brett Butler, and President Barbara McMillin. All of the judges were dressed to match the theme. Dr. Megelsh dressed as Professor Plum, Ms. Carpenter as The Maid, Dr. McMillin as Mrs. Peacock, Dr. Bennett as Colonel Mustard, and Mr. Butler as Rev. Green.
Throughout the night, in between the acts, clues and storylines were given by the moderator, Petrone Rudolph, about which one of the judges, in their respective board game character, committed a murder. Rudolph also entertained the audience with puns, jokes and small talk.
Contestants were limited in number, but not limited in talent and as a cheer squad. First up was Morgan Nesser, who sang “I’m Almost There” from The Princess and The Frog. Jonathan Reno performed an original song called “Only Jesus” while playing the guitar at the same time. Annalise Fish stunned with a theatrical rendition of “The Final Countdown” by Europe on her violin. Julia McCoy followed with singing “At Last” by Etta James. Next, Logan Sweet and Amanda Baker brought the house down with a choreographed dance medley of Michael Jackson songs. Lastly, Vivian Housley rounded it out with a animated video short telling a friend’s hilarious accidental interview about selling knives.
While the judges deliberated, Rudolph sang karaoke to Shania Twain. Ultimately, the winners were announced! Julia McCoy won first place, Annalise Fish won second place and Vivian Houseley won third place. The judges voted. The student body in attendance voted as well, by paper slips or by an online poll on the SBA’s instagram page.
The night was a perfect way to come together as a student body to relax and cheer on some of our most talented toppers! That was the intention behind having such a event. As stated by Cosette Allsbrook, the show was held to “[provide] students with a chance to relax and have a good time with their friends before we get into the craziness of finals.”
Congratulations to Alsbrook and the SBA on a fun, entertaining event! Toppers Got Talent 2024 was a blast, and it showed off our talented students who blessed us by winning or by just participating!
