A new year means a whole new chapel theme. The theme is meant to guide us throughout the school year and even lead us in our own personal lives as well. Dr. Ronald Meeks introduced the new chapel theme to the student body on August 22nd, 2022. The new theme is called “We Believe” and is all about what the Bible says about the Christian beliefs, why we believe them, and how to use them.
The Bible is the living word of God and offers many truths on how to live our lives. Dr. Meeks says that this new year is all about exploring those truths. As a school that is unapologetically Christian, it is important for us to know what the Bible says and how to live it out. The new theme is based on the Bible verse John 20:30-31. It states that “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (ESV). Dr. Meeks spoke about belief, saying that “Believing is more than just saying you do, but it’s about living it.” He also says that this year guest speakers will explore different truths on what are the fundamentals of a Christian life. There will also be personal testimonies given to attest to the love and power of Christ. Our new verse and theme have many students excited about what is to come.
Student Maggie Houge, an education major, said that she loved the idea and that it was a very unique route to take. She said that it was something that all students, both believers and nonbelievers, need to hear. One hope she has for this year is to grow in her faith and “become more unashamed”.
Another student, Caleb “Papaw” White, said that this was an opportunity for students to learn about what the Bible says about our beliefs and how we can live them out. He said that this was a way to help Christians learn how to “walk in their faith, instead of talk in their faith”. As a ministry major, he was very on board with the new theme. He agreed that this was a great way to introduce students to the Gospel and Christian beliefs. He hopes that students are able to hear the Word and be able to make the decision to follow Christ. He said that he hopes to learn how to be more Christ-like in his own personal journey. He stated that he was most excited to hear people give their personal testimonies.
