New Year, New Spaces
The 2021-2022 school year at Blue Mountain College has brought in the college’s largest number of enrollment to date. With that, over three hundred students reside on campus in the numerous dorms and college lodgings. As BMC grows, so does its need for updates to the various living spaces across campus. Since the previous school year, the college has made many updates and improvements to all five dorms—most notably Whitfield, the oldest women’s dormitory on campus. This summ

The Expansion of Blue Mountain Athletics
The 2021-2022 Blue Mountain Athletic Department has more to offer this year than in years prior. Will Lowrey, the head athletic director, pushed the idea of adding a soccer team for both men and women to the list of other sports we offer here at BMC. The addition of soccer has brought about a various amount of different cultures along with new coaching staffs and a brand new soccer facility located in our Sportsplex. The new facility includes a soccer field, bleachers for the

The Game's AFoot!
Video Games and Axes Provide Fun for BMC Students Blue Mountain College hosted an afternoon of fun and games on Thursday, September 9th. Shortly after noon, two trucks rolled onto campus, promising a variety of entertainment for the study-weary college students. One truck hauled a trailer that held axes and targets at which to throw them. The other truck carried a host of video game consoles, from the newest PlayStation 5 to the retro Nintendo64. Old Truth and a New Twist
Everyman just got a new face. Posters all over campus are announcing that our theater department is preparing to present Everyman 2.0, an updated version of an old classic, from September 30th to October 2nd at seven p.m. Both the message and style have been revised, and the play sports a new “steampunk setting” and a Biblically sound message. The director of the theater department, Mrs. Christi Mitchell, said that she “felt strongly about finding a play that had a really st

Changes to BMC Parking
Gravel, asphalt, and sediment. These three ingredients, otherwise known as building components, can make for a sturdy and useful parking facility. However, when a population is continuously growing, and the area is limited in resources for organizing student parking, what is there to do? Blue Mountain College is facing this head scratcher of a situation with an ever-growing student body, and seemingly not enough accommodations for parking on campus. Dean Ritchey has been work

Limiting COVID Restrictions at the Cafeteria
Last year the dining hall was under tight covid restrictions. All food was served to the consumer directly by employees through the serving counter or in tiny to-go boxes due to the restrictions and policies concerning touching and contamination. This semester the lunchroom, with its three serving bars, is different. The first serving bar in the lunch line is the serving counter where the cafeteria workers serve food, and you can even serve yourself at the end of the bar. Las

Impact of Hurricane Ida
Hurricane Ida has devastated a lot of people and communities across the United States, and some of those affected are our own students and faculty members of Blue Mountain College. One of the many students that has been affected by the tropical storm is Cameron Hill, who lives near the coast. Even though his home and property were not touched by the hurricane, his family still had to evacuate. Despite his family and home having gotten through the disastrous storm unscathed, t

Stray Gets Lucky
Of the stray dogs that oftentimes wander the BMC campus, a particular pitbull mix had caught the eye of many last semester. The young mutt has a short white coat with large black splotches as well as a rare case of heterochromia—the medical term for two different colored eyes—and some students had nicknamed him Bink. Despite being shy as most strays tend to be, he still appreciated head pats from any who beckoned him over. The fate of strays, however, is uncertain, lonely, an

Making a Comeback from COVID
It has now been well over a year since the pandemic first began. Unfortunately, COVID-19 is persistent. That being said, we are still resilient. Blue Mountain College has been able to bring classes back to normal this semester, the only exception being the wearing of masks. Even that, though, is being reevaluated weekly, and we have resumed a “masks are recommended but not required” policy as of September 28, 2021. It is natural that many are still worried about what the futu
