Losing a Legend
Early Monday morning, the entirety of Blue Mountain woke up to the news that we had lost a legend. Ms. Johnnie Armstrong has passed quietly from this world onto the next in a New Albany nursing home. Her health had been declining over the course of the past year, and while the blow was painful, it was not unexpected. While the college grieved, many first year students were left with a question they were too afraid to voice: who was the woman and why was she so important to Bl

Macedonians Assemble
The fathering of a new men’s society on campus has caused quite the uproar among students of Blue Mountain, but many are left with the question: who are they? President and Senior Benjamin Myers, alongside Senior and VP Kodie Gray, created the society known as the “Macedonians.” The name stems from the early church of Macedonia, found in the New Testament. President Myers elaborated, “All of the societies emphasize biblical themes. It’s part of our identity,” he added. “So w

Bringing God's Light to the Campus
The BSU President Blue Mountain College is a college founded on Godly principles, and like most colleges, it has a Baptist Student Union. For most colleges, the BSU is a place for the Christians of the campus to have a place of fellowship. While BMC is a Christian campus, the BSU still strives to be that place. The BSU has a council of students set up to help guide the students of Blue Mountain down the right path. The council consists of students ranging from sophomores to s

Talkin' 'Bout Tacoma
The ringing in of a new school year always brings in many new faces to Blue Mountain College. This semester, we have many new additions to the staff and faculty. To introduce these new faces, we’ll be starting a series where we’ll be interviewing all of the newcomers with a mix of serious and not-so-serious questions. The first person that will be featured is Dr. Thomas Tacoma. Dr. Tacoma is a new addition to our History and Behavioral Sciences department. If you’re enrolled

To Be or Not To Be
Shakespeare's Hamlet Comes to BMC Shakespeare’s famous tragedy Hamlet, directed by Christi Mitchell, will be performed on October 30, 2019 at 10:30 in the morning, and October 31, November 1, and November 2 at 7:00 in the evening in Garrett Hall. One of William Shakespeare’s most famous works, Hamlet is about a prince in grief over the death of his father, the King, and the remarriage of his mother. The play follows as Hamlet determines how to exact his revenge on the man who

Creation vs. Relation
Looking into the Names of God Think of the world as one big clock. Time turns, and the seasons change. Tides move in and out, and birth and death continue in their cycle. Naturally, a clock cannot create itself, so there must be a clockmaker. However, many believe that the Creator set the world into motion only to take a step back and let the gears spin on their own. While this analogy might explain God as a Creator, it does not fully illustrate the depth of a relational God.

Heeding the Call
Going on Mission in North America This year, four BMC students dedicated a portion of their summer to serving God across North America. From children’s ministries to a Muslim people, nonprofit organizations to summer camps, the students were able to use their unique gifts and passions to spread the Gospel. Victoria Kinsey went to the Appalachian region of Kentucky and West Virginia with GenSend, a group that, according to Victoria, “teaches kids to live missionally.” Eager t

Hittin’ and Liftin’
Volleyball and Powerlifting “Blue Mountain powerlifting has given me the opportunity to continue to do something that I truly love to do,” says powerlifter Alicia Harris. Blue Mountain is always bringing in new ways to allow people to get involved. This year, we added two new sports: volleyball and powerlifting. By adding volleyball and powerlifting, the college has also been able to welcome a wide variety of people. Powerlifting Coach Nathan Gillard stated, “Powerlifting is

Honors Program Comes to the Mountain
Starting this fall, there is a new academic program at BMC. Dr. McMillan and the Honors Council decided over the summer to expand the honors program from just a few classes to a full curriculum. The application process was rigorous – students had to submit their ACT scores, resumés, and transcripts, as well as a portfolio. Those selected for the interview part of the process went through several different interviews, from individual to “fishbowl” interviews where they drew qu
