Finding Family in Senegal
BMC Student Teaches English to Senegalese Muslims In the small North African nation of Senegal, approximately 95% of the population are Muslims. The half-formed, dusty capital city of Dakar is well-known for its mosques, which preside as the centers of society. Christian influence in Senegal is next to none and the need for long-term missionaries is dire. Senegal’s Islamic culture makes it an incredibly difficult field for missionaries today. New Professors Join BMC Faculty
Still Growing Last year, the chapel theme for 2016 was “Growing Together with BMC.” The focus was not only on growing spiritually, but also literally. Many programs were instituted to help expand the college and bring in new students. This year, we see the fruit of that labor; the influx of students was so great that it warranted new housing on campus. With the new students, however, also come new faculty members to instruct and guide them. Along with various new coaches and

Revive Us Again
Lives Changed during BMC Campus Revival Students and faculty gathered in the MLB auditorium on Monday morning, October 9th, with a sense of anticipation and special attention. This chapel was to be the first devoted to the campus revival everyone had heard and prayed so much about during the past few weeks. The podium was nowhere to be found—the first sign chapel would be a little different. Phil Waldrep, a Southern Baptist pastor and evangelist based in Decatur, Alabama, spo

Healing a Community
Emotional Recovery for Las Vegas America’s deadliest mass shooting in modern history made headlines on October 1 after a man opened fire on a crowd of concert goers, killing 59 and wounding 200 more. Across the country mainstream news networks pose the question on many minds, “Why did he do it?” They focus on details of the shooter’s life such as which bank of video poker machines he frequented. Often overlooked in situations like this are the locals of the area and how suc

BMC Students Take on Faculty in Softball Showdown
On the afternoon of September 26, students took on members of the faculty in what turned into a very close game of softball. The student team was comprised of the best girls from each of the three women’s societies, who played each other earlier in the semester. The faculty team was all men, including both coaches and professors. Cole Baecher, president of the intramural council, gave a quick run down of the events of the game. “We had a shutout first inning,” she says. The s

BMC Girls Rock Beauty Pageant
On the night of September 21, Blue Mountain College held its annual beauty pageant in Modena Lowery Auditorium. The night started off with a chuckle as Emcee Justin Dozier began reading on the wrong page of his notes. Everything was righted quickly, however, when Miss Blue Mountain 2016, Angelica Rhodes, sorted out Justin and his notes. During intermission, students were further entertained by the Gospel Choir, who performed flawlessly. Each of the ladies who participated in

First Annual "Thank a Donor Day" Successful
On September 19th and 20th, tables were set up in the foyer of the administration building and students were invited to write thank you cards to our donors. Once they had written one or more cards, students were entered into a drawing for a gift basket. Pizza was provided for all participants. The point of this event was to extend our gratitude to the people who donate to BMC. Hearing from the students benefiting from their contributions can mean a lot, so a goal of 200 thank
